QUESTIONS AND SOLUTIONS
II. Give the appropriate chemical formulas for ( a ) to ( d ) in the sentences below.
Dissolution of metallic silver \(\ce{Ag(0)}\) into dilute and concentrated nitric acid solutions generates \(\bbox[10px, border: 2px solid red]{(a)}\) and \(\bbox[10px, border: 2px solid red]{(b)}\) gases, respectively. Addition of aqueous ammonia into an aqueous solution of silver nitrate generates \(\bbox[10px, border: 2px solid red]{(c)}\) as a black precipitate, and further addition of excess aqueous ammonia causes \(\bbox[10px, border: 2px solid red]{(c)}\) to disappear. In the resultant aqueous solution, \(\bbox[10px, border: 2px solid red]{(d)}\) is present as a cation.
